Sustainability is becoming a real part of how retail brands choose their fit-out partners, not just a line item. At our Dubai facility, it’s built into how we already operate — here’s what that actually looks like, in numbers.
Solar Power at Our Facility
Our facility runs on rooftop solar, commissioned in December 2021. Solar now accounts for 83% of our total power consumption, cutting an estimated 400 tons of CO2 emissions a year — roughly equivalent to planting 11,000 trees annually. In 2022 alone we produced 995,576 KWh of solar energy.
Recycling and Material Reuse
Every recyclable material that comes off the workshop floor is sorted and sent for recycling instead of landfill. In 2023 that totaled over 364 tons: 21.13 tons of mild steel, 5.45 tons of stainless steel, 6.56 tons of aluminum, 13.54 tons of acrylic, 307.65 tons of MDF, and 10.74 tons of paper and cartons. Products that come back from site after de-installation are dismantled and segregated — MDF, LED, LED drives, acrylic — and reused in the next build wherever possible.
Reducing Waste at the Source
Beyond recycling what’s already used, we’ve invested in equipment that reduces waste before it happens. A solvent recovery machine installed in October 2022 recovered an estimated 23 drums (4,600 litres) of waste thinner for reuse in its first three months alone. A centralized cryogenic liquid nitrogen tank replaced individual compressed cylinders for our fiber laser machine, cutting cylinder use by roughly 300 units in 2022. We’re also shifting toward plywood and recycled wood panels in place of MDF where the application allows it, and using plywood, cardboard, and palm board — all biodegradable and reusable — for packaging instead of MDF.
What This Means for Your Project
None of this requires a client to ask for a “sustainable” version of their fit-out at a premium — it’s simply how the facility runs. Energy-efficient AC systems, variable frequency drive compressors, and fiber laser machines are the default equipment on the floor, not an upgrade option.
